Media Review
Shortt Features, Bay Runner, February 2002 by Jim Shortt"LOUISIANA BOOGIE: That's the name of the band and that's what you get - Louisiana & Texas Gulf Coast swamp boogie, R&B, blues and classic R&R - good stuff, all. This band has that fat, horn driven R&B sound that's been turning on audiences ever since leader/guitarist Doug Ardoin originally founded the fabled Boogie Kings in 956, oops, 1956. The horn section features Dale Gothia on alto and baritone sax and Jim Darnell on tenor. Premier lead vocalist Charlie Greenway, formerly of the Soul Brothers, Inc., also plays keyboards. Bassist Julio Bynum and drummer Ozzie Hart round out the excellent rhythm section. When I caught them recently, Doug did a good job singing some Fats Domino. That went over well with the audience, as did Julio's version of Tommy McClain's swamp pop classic, "Before I Grow Too Old". But for me, the best was when Charlie Greenway did Bobby Bland's classic "Two Steps From The Blues" and Louisiana's LaRoux's "New Orleans Ladies". I wasn't alone. All night folks were shouting requests for a repeat of "New Orleans Ladies". Come quitting time, the crowd demanded an encore. Doug did Johnny B. Goode and noticing Dale singing along, turned over the vocals to him. Everyone had a blast with Dale's impersonation of Chuck Berry. Hmmm … was a vocal star born?"
